Dr. Steve Wittrig

Practice Leader, China Innovation, Ammonia and Chemicals

Dr. Wittrig works with business, academic and government agencies in the US and China to foster development and commercialization of new energy technologies. He recently retired from BP as Director, Advanced Technologies after 30 years service. While in China with BP, Steve founded the Clean Energy: Facing the Future and Energy Innovation Laboratory with the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Tsinghua BP Clean Energy Centre. These programs were aimed at strengthening partnerships for accelerating development of low carbon energy technologies.

During Steve’s career in the petroleum industry, he worked in R&D, marketing, and strategy, as well as projects in refining and chemicals. Steve worked on the BP/Amoco merger integration, and was the Corporate Lead for Amoco on a DME/Methanol strategy that led to the world’s largest methanol plant in Trinidad. He was also the leader in strategy development and implementation for BP’s Alternative Energy business. Steve holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana and a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Cal Tech. He resides in Chicago.
